The congregation of the Malabar Missionary Brothers was founded in 1948. Till the year1967, MMB had only two houses, Mission Home, Mariapuram and House of Providence, Irinjalakuda. As the number of Brothers increased, it was necessary to start more houses. Rev. Fr. Joseph Kakkassery, the then Director of the Congregation and Bro. Gabriel Pazhayattil, the Superior, took initiative and bought six acres of land at Peechi.
The Alverniya Ashram started functioning in the small house which was exited at the time of purchase. Later a shed was built and Snehalayam Boys’ Home was started with some needy children. Gradually the numbers of boys were increased and a new building was constructed for the same. The initial formation of MMB functioned at Alvernia Ashram for some years. Then Alvernia Boys’ Home was started in the year 2010. During 2016 the functioning of Boys’ Home was terminated due to the introduction of J.J. Act by Central Govt.
