The first pastoral ministry of MMB religious congregation in the area of Malabar is Emmaus Villa in Wayanad.  It is intended for the care and protection of differently abled, especially mentally challenged, children. With the invitation of Mar Jacob Thoomkuzy, the first bishop of the diocese of Mananthavady, MMB Brothers started this centre as per the vision of Msgr. Zacharias Vazhappilly, the founder of MMB.  On April 20, 1980, Calvary Ashram was blessed and inaugurated at Arattuthara.  In the same year for the training and rehabilitation of mentally challenged children, Emmaus Villa, was started on December 8, 1980 at Amboothy, Mananthavady with eight children.  But within a year we found that the place is not suitable for the institute in all aspects. Hence it was shifted to Thonichal closed to Mananthavady – Kozhikode highway, on 1989. The institute developed slowly and facilities are added one by one. Now the “Emmaus” have the facilities for more than 150 students. We have hostel facilities for 100 students. The present strength of Emmaus is 128. 35 teaching and non teaching staff is working here for the overall development of the inmates and students.

During 2009, 2025 Emmaus Villa has been selected as the best special school in Kerala and best special school in Wayanad District during 2019.  Many other awards have won by the Emmaus in state and national level. The list of achievements that Emmaus Villa have scored are more in district, district, state and national level. These achievements are made possible with the hard work of the religious sisters of FCC, CMC, SKD and the teaching and nonteaching staff.

Special training is given for the disabled children here for the examination of 4, 7, 10 standards conducted by State Saksharamtha Mission considering the education and entire integral development.  Training is given in the field of physio therapy, speech therapy, yoga, house maintaining, agricultural, poultry and dairy fields and also in arts and cultural subjects.  Bro. Peterdas Kuzhuppilly and Bros. George Palakkad and Sebin Pallikudiyil with Rev. Sr. Jessy FCC are leading the institute to new heights.
